Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Colombian center back, Eddie Segura from Atletico Hula on a six-month loan with a player option.
In 2018, Segura captained Torneo Atletico and led them to a fourth-place finish and a trip to the playoff semifinals. In his two years with the club, Segura played a total of 80 games across all competitions. Prior to joining Atletico in 2017, he spent his first four professional seasons in Colombia’s second division with Deportivo Pereira, his hometown.
“At such a young age, Eddie has accumulated a wealth of experience in Colombia, and we believe he has the requisite potential and qualities to make an immediate impact to our backline next season.” said General Manager and EVP of Soccer Operations John Thorrington.
“Eddie is a strong, dynamic defender who fits well with how we play, and, similar to our other players, will continue his progress as a player here in Los Angeles.”
The 21-year-old center back becomes the club’s first offseason signing after 3-2 loss against Real Salt Lake in the knockout elimination round.
Segura is set to occupy an international slot in LAFC’s roster in 2019 pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa, and is expected to join LAFC at the start of the preseason camp in January.
The Colombian native becomes the eighth Latin American player signed by LAFC.
