Well, they finally did it. The LA Galaxy got three points. It wasn’t as straightforward as most would have liked. There was the whole Zlatan Ibrahimovic getting sent off in the first half incident. And the defense looked porous at times – surprise. But a win, nonetheless, is a win. And boy was it needed. Here is the LA Galaxy report card against Montreal.
LA Galaxy Report Card
Goalkeeper Report Card
David Bingham: B
Bingham notched his second clean sheet of the season, his first in a winning situation. Montreal certainly didn’t make it easy on him. The veteran goal keeper made five big saves throughout the 90 minutes.
Defense Report Card
Dave Romney: B-
Romney played well at left back in lieu of Ashley Cole. He didn’t make too many mistakes and defended well enough in the shutout.
Jørgen Skjelvik: B-
Skjelvik was the perfect complement to Ciani yesterday. The Norwegian made interceptions, put in a number of tackles and cleared the lines five times. If the duo can just get a little better with their passing, you could see more shutouts in the near future.
Michael Ciani: B-
While Ciani’s passing wasn’t up to snuff, the Frenchman won everything in the air. There were three long balls hit his way and Ciani cleared them all away. That’s good afternoons work for a central defender.
Emrah Klimenta: C
The first 45 minutes of Klimenta’s MLS career was nothing to write to home about. He looked shaky and misplayed a number of passes when trying to link up with Romain Alessandrini. The former Sacramento Republic man though turned it around in the second half to put up a decent performance over all.
Midfield Report Card
Sebastian Lletget: B-
Lletget is known for his heralded for his dribbling abilities. He showed that yesterday, completing one dribble, while completing 94% of his passes.
Perry Kitchen: B-
Perry Kitchen looked the part ahead positioning himself in front of the back four. He put in a number of clearances, sweeping away eight Montreal opportunities.
Attack Report Card
Romain Alessandrini: B
It was strange seeing Alessandrini getting subbed out, but maybe you can kind of justify the reasoning. The Galaxy have another game on Friday and needed to rest him as much as possible. Let’s look at his offensive stats for a second. Alessandrini only had one shot and had a measly 67% pass completion rate. However, he was solid on the defensive side of the ball, making three big tackles.
Jonathan Dos Santos: B
The midfield just looks so much better with JDS on the pitch, even if he was playing in a more advanced position. Dos Santos completed 95% of his passes, three dribbles, and one tackle. If there was a downside in his game, it was the fact that he lost possession three times.
Ola Kamara: B+
That’s now four goals in four games for Ola Kamara. And this time, it was a match-winning goal. This goal will surely give him even more confidence going forward.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: D
You know what? Thought about giving him an F here. But Zlatan is why the Galaxy started playing better once he got the red card. For that reason, he’s only getting a D.
