How LAFC Can Beat FC Dallas

After the dramatic victory at the inaugural match at Banc of California Stadium Sunday, what’s in store for when LAFC hosts FC Dallas this weekend?

Breaking Down FC Dallas’ Attack

FC Dallas are quietly going about their business again in MLS. Currently, they sit in fourth place, three points behind this weekend’s hosts. There is nothing flashy about this Dallas side. But yet, they’re picking up points left and right, notching three wins and three draws, while suffering just one loss.

Mauro Diaz scored his first goal of the season in Dallas’ win over the Philadelphia Union two weeks ago. Diaz is the guy who makes the offense move. Despite his lack of goal scoring thus far, he does have 14 shot attempts. That means that a lot of the play will flow through the 27-year-old. But that does not mean Diaz will always test a goalkeeper from that distance. LAFC should try to limit him to shots from outside the area. Attempts from long range will help ease.

You do have to look out for 30-year-old left midfielder Roland Lamah. The Belgian is currently leading Dallas with three goals and three assists and is a handful. Most of the time, Lamah plays out on the left side of the pitch. For the most part, he plays higher up in the attacking third; he can also parade the middle of the pitch too.

LA FC’s number one plan on defense should be to not give Lamah time on the ball. If that is successful, Dallas will most likely find it hard to make any foray in the box.

How LAFC Can Come Away with Three Points

FC Dallas has given up a mere six goals in seven matches played so far this season. That makes the visitors the number one defense in the league. In fact, New York City FC scored half of those goals last weekend in a 3-1 victory. And that is the tape Bob Bradley should take a real good look at.

Quick, short passes inside the area is what picked Dallas’ defense apart. Those passes turned the defenders around like crazy and they could not keep up. LAFC has to make those kinds of passes early and often. That needs to be the game plan heading into Saturday afternoon.

Prediction

The momentum from last weekend’s win should carry over into this match against FC Dallas. Bradley will drill his squad hard in training. Even with the absence of Marco Ureña, who underwent facial surgery, LAFC has the talent to keep their winning streak going.

Score Prediction: 2-0 LAFC.
