The LA Galaxy fell to the San Jose Earthquakes for the second time this season, after losing 3-1 despite David Bingham’s heroics.
After Rolf Feltscher’s goal in the second minute, it was all San Jose, who outplayed the Galaxy in every facet. The Earthquakes recorded 32 shots, 16 of them on target, which were all club records.
“We never could stop them,” Guillermo Barro Schelotto told media following the loss. I think we had a bad game today.
Everything we talk during the week to do today we did that in the first 15 or 20 minutes and then the game was for San Jose.”
GBS made a handful of changes from their match against Toronto FC. Rolf Feltscher and Jorgen Skjelvik returned to their respective outside back positions. In midfield, Jonathan Dos Santos replaced Perry Kitchen, while Uriel Antuna slotted out to his usual left wing spot.
The 28-year-old’s goal came off of an early set piece opportunity. Dos Santos swung in a delivery off of a corner kick. Feltscher stuck out his right foot and beat Mario Daniel Vega at the near post.
“If I look just personally, I would be a tennis player,” Feltscher said.
“For me, it makes me happy to win the game, so today I’m not happy.
If we win I’m happy. If I don’t score and we win I’m happy. If I score and we lose, I’m not happy so I don’t care.”
From then on, however, the Galaxy’s attack was fairly non-existent, on and off the pitch. Once the match was over, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had left before reporters could get answers to his teams performance.
Valeri Qazaishvili and Danny Hoesen scored goals three minutes apart shortly after the hour mark.
A minute after the hour mark, the 26-year-old Georgian, found space at the top of the box before firing low and into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Qazaishvili was involved in the build up once again three minutes later, this time down the left side of the area. He played a ball back towards the middle of the area, where Hoesen had a simple tap in for San Jose’s second goal.
David Bingham produced another save in the 85th minute. His rebound, however, was volleyed home by Jackson Yueill.
The Galaxy will have to find some answers quickly as the match against LAFC looms. Their rivalry match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 PM PST.
